I sat among a crowd of gaping jaws and widened eyes as the gavel hit, creating history. Amrita Sher Gil is popularly known to have said “Europe belongs to Picasso, Matisse, Braque and many others. India belongs only to me”, and it was at this moment that it felt like her spirit had decided to pass the baton on to me, a young female artist forging her path.
The painting was acquired by Mr. Dinesh Vazirani, CEO Saffron Art, who conducted the epoch-making auction; it now proudly hangs at his headquarters in Mumbai, India. “
