“My ode to the record-breaking feminist artist who was a trailblazer- Amrita Sher Gil. A successful and memorable auction conducted by the prestigious ‘Saffronart’ in Oberoi Hotel Delhi, India became the impetus that would lead to the fruition of this work of art. Her painting, “The Story-teller”, a 1937 oil on canvas sold at a whopping Rs. 61.8 Crores, making it the most expensive Indian painting. I sat among a crowd of gaping jaws and widened eyes as the gavel hit, creating history. Amrita Sher Gil is popularly known to have said “Europe belongs to Picasso, Matisse, Braque and many others. India belongs only to me”, and it was at this moment that it felt like her spirit had decided to pass the baton on to me, a young female artist forging her path.

The painting was acquired by Mr. Dinesh Vazirani, CEO Saffron Art, who conducted the epoch-making auction; it now proudly hangs at his headquarters in Mumbai, India. “
